Church of Agioi Theodoroi
During your visit to Servia, be sure to discover the Church of Agioi Theodoroi, a Byzantine monument dating from the second half of the 11th century. This single-aisled church, with its semicircular apse and ceramic decoration, once served as the katholicon of a monastery and preserves frescoes dating to 1497 both inside and on the exterior of its western wall. As you explore its interior, its iconographic programme unfolds in three zones: in the upper register, you will admire scenes from the Twelve Feasts and the Passion of Christ; in the middle, saints and prophets in medallions; and in the lower, full-length saints, together with the triform Deesis on the northern wall. Created by two painters, the frescoes are characteristic of the anti-classical and conservative artistic tradition that flourished in Central and Western Macedonia, while bearing clear influences from the renowned Kastorian workshop.
