Hospital of the Democratic Army of Greece
At an altitude of 1,400 metres on Mount Grammos, you can discover an important site of modern Greek history: the Hospital of the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE). Built in 1948 in a well-protected location on the eastern side of the Skala peak, it was constructed using local stone and timber. Today, you can follow the trails through the area and explore the remains of around 30 structures that once formed part of the hospital complex. An open-air exhibition, featuring rare photographs, maps and personal testimonies, brings this chapter of history to life within the landscape, offering you the chance to encounter one of the most defining and difficult periods of modern Greek history: the Greek Civil War.
