Bassara Mansion
In the Doltso district, along Vyzantiou Street, you will come across the Bassara Mansion, one of the oldest surviving mansions in Kastoria. The building consists of a ground floor, a mezzanine level, and an upper floor, although it originally included an additional storey that was demolished in the late 19th century. Its rectangular layout is organized around a central axis running parallel to the building’s longer side, creating a balanced and symmetrical arrangement of the interior spaces. Here, you can admire the open wooden balcony known as the heliakos, the arched openings of the ground floor, and the distinctive projecting bay window supported by wooden brackets adorned with carved geometric motifs – details that showcase the craftsmanship and architectural refinement of the period. Today, the mansion stands as a living reminder of Kastoria’s history and architectural heritage, evoking the era of the city’s commercial prosperity and economic flourishing.
