Kolinta Babo
On Christmas Eve, Eordaia celebrates the joyous message of the Nativity in a unique way, deeply rooted in tradition. At the heart of the festivities is the custom of ‘Kolinta Bampo’, linked to the night-time caroling traditions. On the evening of December 24th, large bonfires are lit in the village squares, fueled by wood collected by residents in the preceding days. The flames rise high and illuminate the smiles and faces of the people, creating a truly festive atmosphere. Crowds gather around, and you can hear everyone shouting “Kolinta Bampo!” while dancing, singing, and local treats transform the night into a genuine community celebration. The fire symbolizes purification and the driving away of evil, but above all it strengthens the sense that everyone together forms one large family welcoming the birth of Christ. Experience the spirit of this custom in Asvestopetra, Ermakia, Olympiada, and Kardia, where the flames come alive every year.
