Church of Agios Nikolaos of the Nun Efpraxia

Within the historic fabric of the city of Kastoria stands the Church of Saint Nicholas of Nun Eupraxia, a small yet significant monument of the late Byzantine period. It is a single-aisle, timber-roofed basilica with a later continuous narthex added along the southern and western sides. According to a surviving inscription, the church was renovated and frescoed in 1486 at the expense of Nun Eupraxia, a donation that reflects its role as a beacon of religious and spiritual life at the time. You should take a moment to admire the surviving frescoes on the eastern, northern, and southern walls, dating to the late 15th century, and observe them up close—they stand out both for their high quality and their rare iconography.
