Historical–Folklore & Natural History Museum of Kozani
At the Historical–Folklore & Natural History Museum of Kozani, each floor narrates a different story about the region. In the basement, you will encounter rocks and fossilized insects and animals that reveal the area’s geological evolution and natural history. On the upper floors, expect to witness archaeological and historical artifacts, authentic costumes, tools, furniture, and artworks that recreate everyday life of locals from the 17th to the 20th century. The folklore collection is considered the museum’s “crown jewel”. Here, you will explore traditional culture — from professions and customs to music and traditional dress code. On the top floor, you are introduced to everyday life in a Kozani household from the Ottoman period up to the late 1950s, a period that reflects the city’s prosperity, shaped by its trade connections with Central Europe and once expressed through impressive mansions that no longer exist today.
