Vourkas Mansion
As you explore Kozani, one of the most emblematic buildings you will come across is the Grigorios Vourkas Mansion, a fine example of the city’s secular architecture from the Ottoman period. Completed on 10 June 1748, as recorded in its stone inscription, it offers a direct link to the people and everyday life of the 18th century. The mansion reflects a period of prosperity in Kozani, when the city emerged as an important commercial and intellectual centre of the region. It has preserved its original enclosure and traditional courtyard to this day, offering an authentic example of urban Macedonian architecture, while its interior features elaborately carved wooden ceilings and impressive mousantres—painted built-in wardrobes that reveal the aesthetics and craftsmanship of another era.
