Vourkas Mansion

As you explore Kozani, one of the most emblematic buildings you will come across is the Grigorios Vourkas Mansion, a fine example of the city’s secular architecture from the Ottoman period. Completed on 10 June 1748, as recorded in its stone inscription, it offers a direct glimpse into the people and everyday life of the 18th century. The mansion reflects a period of prosperity, when Kozani city emerged as an important commercial and intellectual centre of the region. It has preserved its original enclosure wall and traditional courtyard, offering an authentic example of urban Macedonian architecture, while its interior is distinguished by elaborately carved wooden ceilings and impressive mousantres—painted built-in cupboards that showcase the aesthetics and craftsmanship of a bygone era.
