Skepasmeno Gorge

Close to Velventos lies a gorge of exceptional beauty—the Skepasmeno Gorge, also known as the “Gorge of the Nine Pierian Muses.” It is located on the western slopes of the Pieria Mountains, at the entrance to the Lafista stream, and takes its name from a naturally covered section of the watercourse. Stretching for approximately 8 kilometers, it is distinguished by its impressive waterfalls, natural pools, and lush vegetation that envelops the landscape. Plane trees, willows, wild hazelnuts, ash trees, and oaks shape the scenery in the lower parts, while conifer forests dominate the higher slopes. Here, you can wander along shaded trails, pause at the benches and kiosks placed along the route, and, during the summer months, even swim in the natural pools formed beneath the waterfalls.
