Skepasmeno Gorge

Just a short distance from Velvento lies one of the area’s most impressive natural landscapes—the Skeparmeno Gorge, also known as the “Gorge of the Nine Pierian Muses.” Set on the western slopes of the Pieria Mountains, at the entrance to the Lafista stream, and it takes its name from a naturally covered section of the watercourse. Stretching for around 8 kilometers, the gorge stands out for its striking waterfalls, natural pools, and lush vegetation that surrounds the entire route. Plane trees, willows, wild hazelnuts, ash trees, and oaks shape the scenery in the lower parts, while higher slopes are covered in dense conifer forests. The area invites you to walk along its shaded paths, pause at benches and kiosks along the way, and in the summer months even enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural pools formed by the waterfalls.
