Akrini Village Festival
Every year, 40 days after Easter, Akrini comes alive during the Feast of the Ascension with its three-day village festival, held from Tuesday to Thursday. At the heart of the celebrations is the Church of Agios Georgios, where religious services attract pilgrims and visitors from across West Macedonia and beyond. One of the festival’s highlights is the procession of the icon of Agios Georgios (Saint George), a ceremonial parade accompanied by horsemen and devotees that offers a glimpse into one of the area’s most enduring traditions. Throughout the celebrations, you can explore the large open-air market, browse a wide variety of stalls, and soak up the festive atmosphere. Traditional dance performances by the local children’s dance group add colour and vitality to the event, while live music and dancing bring together people of all ages. The programme also features the famous Egg Fights, one of the region’s best-known traditional customs, held at the Multicentre and attracting large crowds of spectators every year.
