Church of Agioi Anargyroi in Kozani
The Church of Agioi Anargyroi is one of the oldest churches in Kozani, inviting you to discover a significant chapter of the city’s ecclesiastical heritage. Its history stretches back centuries: the earliest references to the church date from 1612, while the present building was constructed in the early 19th century. A few decades later, in 1858, the chapel of Agia Barbara was added, completing the architectural ensemble that has been preserved to this day. Stepping inside, you will discover important religious treasures, including the historic icons of Timios Prodromos (Saint John the Baptist) (1815), and Archangel Michael (1855), as well as frescoes created between 1920 and 1923 and a rare Gospel dating from 1762. In the church courtyard, you will also encounter a stone spring known as the “Water of the Agioi Anargyroi (Holy Unmercenaries)”, which once supplied the surrounding neighbourhood with drinking water.
