Church of Agios Dimitrios in Lechovo

Dominating the central square of Lechovo since 1812, the Church of Agios Dimitrios is the village’s principal church and a lasting symbol of its collective memory. Renovated in 1868, it acquired its present form as a three-aisled timber-roofed basilica, reflecting the understated grandeur of Macedonian ecclesiastical architecture. Inside, you are welcomed by the exquisite wooden iconostasis, crafted in 1864 by master woodcarvers from Epirus—a masterpiece of 19th-century ecclesiastical woodcarving. The bishop’s throne, the pulpit, and the icon stand form a harmonious ensemble, while outside, the imposing bell tower completes the church’s distinctive silhouette.
