Church of Agios Georgios in Eratyra
Built in 1844, the Church of Agios Georgios in Eratyra is an outstanding example of 19th-century religious art and architecture. It is a three-aisled timber-roofed basilica with a five-part layout (including the external narthex), harmoniously combining elements of local building tradition with influences from the wider region of West Macedonia. Its artistic value becomes particularly evident inside, where the finely carved wooden iconostasis stands out for its exceptional sculptural decoration, representing a remarkable example of the flourishing post-Byzantine woodcarving tradition. According to tradition, it was crafted over seventeen years by three artisans from Seltsa. The interior is further enriched by the church’s frescoes, which feature a rich variety of iconographic themes, blending traditional technique with elements of folk artistic expression. Outside, the impressive bell tower, built in 1880, completes the architectural ensemble, dominating the central square.
