Church of Agios Germanos
At the heart of the village of Agios Germanos stands one of the most significant Byzantine monuments of Prespa—the Church of Agios Germanos. Built in the early 11th century and dedicated to Patriarch Germanos I of Constantinople, it belongs to the type of transitional cruciform inscribed, where the architectural form of the cross is clearly articulated in the building’s overall structure, both inside and outside. Inside, three distinct phases of frescoes are preserved (from the 11th century, the 12th–13th centuries, and 1743 during the episcopacy of Parthenios), forming a vivid record of faith and artistic tradition through time. Among them, the Dodecaorton (Twelve Great Feasts), the Pantocrator on the dome, and the Theotokos Deomeni on the arch of the sanctuary stand out, making the church one of the most remarkable monuments in Prespa’s long and layered history.
