Church of Agios Konstantinos and Agia Eleni in Kozani
One of the largest and most historically significant churches in Kozani, the Church of Agios Konstantinos and Agia Eleni was completed in 1858. Built on the foundations of an older church of unknown date, it underwent extensive renovations during the 20th century, acquiring the form it has today. Inside, you will discover a remarkable interior adorned with rich iconographic decoration created by the distinguished iconographer Voutsinas. The gilded dome, together with the impressive stained-glass window on the northern side, fills the space with a warm and luminous atmosphere. On the upper floor, a small yet fascinating museum collection awaits, featuring icons of various representations, many of which date back to the 19th century. Among the treasures preserved here are also sacred relics, including those of Agios Panteleimon and Agios Arsenios of Cappadocia. If you happen to be in Kozani on 14 September, make time to visit the church during its annual celebration, when a replica of Constantine the Great’s Cross, containing a fragment of the True Cross from the Monastery of Vatopedi, is presented for veneration.
