Collection of Pencil Sharpeners and Erasers – Valtonera
An unexpected story brought the small village of Valtonea to international attention. In 2003, Dimitra Koutsouridou — a local girl of remarkable determination — earned a place in the Guinness World Records by collecting 8,514 pencil sharpeners, the largest collection of its kind in the world. The story of the blind girl who inspired people in Greece and beyond became a symbol of perseverance, imagination, and creativity. Since 2004, her collection has been permanently exhibited at Valtonea Primary School, where it has grown to more than 12,500 sharpeners, alongside an equally remarkable collection of erasers displayed in a neighbouring room. A colourful, original, and vibrant museum, it invites you to experience a world of innocence and heartfelt emotion — reminding you that determination and creativity can bring even the smallest village into the spotlight.
