Egg Fights

The Egg Fights are a joyful Easter tradition of Pontic origin that you will mainly experience in villages of the Kozani region, including Agios Dimitrios, Agios Charalambos, Akrini, Kapnochori, and Kleitos. They take place on Easter Sunday or Easter Monday and fill villages with a festive atmosphere and a spirit of friendly competition. Participants carefully select their strongest red-dyed boiled eggs and enter the… fight! The goal is simple: crack your opponent’s egg while keeping your own intact. Beyond the joy of the game, however, the Egg Battles celebrate the triumph of life over death and good over evil. The egg, itself, a timeless symbol of renewal, takes centre stage in a tradition that brings together people of all ages.
