Egg fights
In Komnina, Easter takes on a playful character with the custom of Avgochomagies (Egg fights), a distinctive Pontic tradition. Participants select the strongest boiled eggs and compete by tapping them against their opponents’, aiming to crack the other egg while keeping their own intact. Deeply rooted in folk tradition, the custom symbolises the triumph of good over evil, while the egg itself has long stood as a universal symbol of life and rebirth.
