Fanoi
The Fanoi are among the region’s most vibrant winter traditions, a ritual with deep roots in local custom and echoes of the ancient Dionysian celebrations. Each year, streets and village squares come alive with light, music, and dance as large ceremonial bonfires are lit in specially prepared gathering places. Around each fire, locals and visitors come together to sing, dance, and celebrate to the sound of traditional music. Moving from one Fanos to another, you will discover that each gathering has its own distinct character, with different songs, customs, and atmosphere, offering a unique experience while sharing the same festive spirit.
Where to experience it:The tradition is celebrated in Servia, Avles, Goules, Imera, Mesiani, Trigoniko, and Platanorrema.
