Fanoi
On Carnival Sunday, Velvento is transformed into a vibrant celebration of fire, music, and colour, honouring one of West Macedonia’s most distinctive traditions: the Fanoi. The main bonfire is lit in the village square as the peak of the Carnival festivities, bringing together locals and visitors in a joyful celebration. Gathered around the blazing fire, people sing traditional Carnival songs, dance, and celebrate late into the evening, creating an atmosphere of warmth, togetherness, and festivity that has been passed down from generation to generation.
