Hermitage of Agios Athanasios
The Hermitage of Agios Athanasios is the only one of the Great Prespa hermitages that can be reached not only by boat but also on foot via a short trail from the village of Psarades. This small single-aisled chapel, dating to the 15th century, has suffered damage from rockslides; however, several frescoes are still preserved in the sanctuary, bearing witness to the long tradition of Byzantine painting in the region. Silent and austere, set within its natural surroundings, it radiates the peace and strength once sought by the hermits of Prespa.
