Hermitage of the Transfiguration of the Saviour

On the southern shore of Great Prespa, west of Psarades, in a shallow cave above a small beach, lies the Hermitage of the Transfiguration of the Saviour. The small single-aisled chapel, dating to the 13th century, is one of the earliest surviving examples of monastic life in the region. Despite the wear of time, traces of frescoes are still preserved, bearing witness to its former decoration. Its setting, nestled between rock and water, lends the landscape a rare sense of tranquillity and sacredness.
