Church of Agios Georgios in Katakali
In the village of Katakali in Grevena you will encounter the Church of Agios Georgios, one of the most important in the area, with a history dating to the 13th century. Passing through the stone entrance, you will see a single-nave church with a later narthex and a distinctive open portico on the southern side. The awe-inspiring frescoes covering the entire interior are works of two different periods, and they are distinguished in two layers: the older ones date to the mid-17th century, while the newer layer dates to 1761. Your interest will also be captured by the elaborate wooden iconostasis of 1800, an exceptional example of ecclesiastical woodcarving, revealing the exceptional craftsmanship of the era.
