Holy Trinity Monastery
On the route from Velvento to Katafygi, within the forest slopes of the Pieria Mountains, you come across the Monastery of the Holy Trinity—another important landmark of the region’s religious and historical heritage. From the original monastery complex, what survives today includes the katholikon, a single-nave timber-roofed church with a narthex and a women’s gallery, as well as the western wing of the monastic cells. According to tradition and historical sources, the monastery was founded in the 15th century and functioned as an organised religious centre until 1860. After the liberation in 1912, it ceased to operate as an active monastery. Today, it is served by the parish clergy of Velvento, while restoration works have helped preserve the site and enhance its facilities, including guest accommodation. Thanks to the care of the local community, the monastery continues to stand as a living part of the area’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
