Democratic Army’s hospital
About 3 km southwest of Vrontero, along the rural road leading towards the now-abandoned village of Agkathoto, lies the cave known as the Democratic Army’s Hospital. During the final months of the Greek Civil War, it served as a place of care for wounded fighters of the Democratic Army of Greece, providing basic medical treatment under extremely harsh conditions. Today, the site highlights the most human and painful dimension of the conflict, where care, fear, and the struggle for survival unfolded.
