Kale Fortress
On the northern shore of Lake Petres, at the fortified site known as “Kale”, the ruins of a 10th-century castle still dominate the landscape above the water. Covering an area of approximately 50 hectares, the fortress features a tripartite layout and an unusual extension toward the lakeshore. At the upper level of the acropolis, traces of an Early Christian basilica and scattered building remains survive—silent witnesses to a thousand years of history.
