Kladaries
Shortly before Christmas, Voio comes alive with the light of countless bonfires rising across the squares of its villages: the renowned Kladaries. From Siatista to Galatini and Sisani, young and old gather around the flames, singing and dancing in a night filled with light and warmth. Preparations begin weeks in advance, with children collecting dry grass and wood for the fires, which are built around a tall central pole known as the vergi. When the signal for lighting is given, the flames rise and the village squares are transformed into a single shared celebration. Thus, the Kladaries endure as an ancient symbol of hope and renewal, preserving the spirit of Christmas alive. The tradition is revived in Siatista, Aliakmonas, Vouchorina, Rodochori, Kaloneri, Zoni, Molocha, Sisani, Neapoli, and Galatini.
