Momogerοi
During the Twelve Days between Christmas and Epiphany, the Momogeroi take to the streets of Amyntaio’s villages, dressed in traditional costumes and accompanied by drums and lyres. One of the oldest Pontic folk performances, this custom is rich in humour, music, and symbolism, bringing to life figures such as the Bride, Fertility, and the Young Man who defeats the Old Man — a celebration of the eternal cycle of time renewed through laughter and song.Groups move from house to house, offering wishes and receiving treats, until the festivities reach their peak in the village square. Here, you are not simply a spectator — you dance, laugh, and become part of a celebration whose roots stretch deep into time.
