Museum of the Macedonian Struggle “Kapetan Kottas”

In the village of Kottas, formerly known as Roulia before being renamed in honour of the renowned Macedonian fighter Captain Kottas (Konstantinos Christou), his restored two-storey family house now houses the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle, which has been open to the public since 1995. Once one of the grandest residences in the area, the building is remarkable not only for its architecture but also for its symbolism, having been transformed from a family home into a place of memory and history. The ground floor displays traditional household utensils and farming tools, while the upper floor features weapons from the Macedonian Struggle, medals, photographs of Macedonian fighters, garments belonging to Captain Kottas’s family, and a library donated by the Association of Women of Western Macedonia. More than a museum, it is a living memorial that honours both the legacy of Captain Kottas and the contribution of the wider Prespa region to Greece’s modern history.
