Ottoman Monuments of Florina

Florina still carries clear traces of its Ottoman past, which add a distinctive multicultural character to its history. North of Eleftherias Avenue rises the “koulés,” the defensive tower of a former mansion, while at the corner of Papakostantinou Nereti and Kresnas streets, the base of the minaret of the Çarşı Camii still stands as the only remaining reminder of the seven mosques that once existed in the city. Near the banks of the Sakoulevas River, the hammam at Dikaiosynis Square also survives—the only preserved bathhouse in Florina, which remained in use until 1958. Together, these fragments quietly preserve the memory of a layered past that still shapes the character of the city today.
