Christougenniatikes Foties (Christmas Bonfires)

Every year on 23 December, Florina is filled with the magic of the Christmas season. From midnight onwards, the city’s neighbourhoods come alive with the lighting of the famous Christmas Bonfires, many of which reach up to 15 metres in height. Locals gather around them to sing, dance, and share wine and traditional delicacies, in a celebration that brings together generations and cultures. Deeply rooted in local tradition, this custom is revived each year with the support of the Municipality and cultural associations and is considered one of the most distinctive traditions of West Macedonia—a night of light and warmth in the heart of winter.
