Archaeological Museum of Argos Orestiko
A visit to the Archaeological Museum of the Regional Unit of Kastoria, in Argos Orestiko, offers a fascinating journey through the ancient history of the wider region. Its permanent collection brings together remarkable finds from archaeological excavations across Kastoria, complemented by chance discoveries made over the years by local residents. Thoughtfully displayed in a modern exhibition space, the collections include exquisite jewellery, ritual objects, pottery, sculptures, and everyday artefacts that trace the story of Orestis from the Early Iron Age to the Roman period. Among the museum’s most remarkable treasures are the unique Paeonian infantry shield and the Decree of the Battynaians, the most important political inscription discovered in West Macedonia. Alongside its permanent exhibition, the museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions and educational programmes for visitors of all ages, making every visit a rewarding cultural experience.
