Church of Agios Georgios in Florina
Built in 1835 just outside the city, on the Florina–Kastoria provincial road, the Church of Agios Georgios is an important religious and historical monument of Florina. It is a three-aisled basilica with a wooden roof, whose interior is adorned with a beautifully carved wooden iconostasis and old portable icons. This is the church where the first official Orthodox thanksgiving service for the city’s liberation was held, back in 1912. If you find yourself in Florina on 8 November, it is worth attending the service that keeps the tradition of the liberation celebrations alive.
