Church of Prophet Elias in Siatista

Perched on the hill between Chora and Geraneia stands the Church of Prophet Elias, a three-aisled wooden-roofed basilica dating to 1701, awaiting to reveal its panoramic view, impressive carved details, and remarkable frescoes. Renovated in 1740, it features an elevated narthex–women’s gallery painted in 1744 by artists from Kapesovo. Highlights include the Tree of Jesse with ancient philosophers, the Creation of Adam, the Preparation of the Throne, and the Second Coming. The main church interior is more discrete, with plaster details and a wooden ceiling reminiscent of Siatista’s famous mansions, while the gilded carved wooden iconostasis dominates the space with its grandeur.
